Should a Caesarian section be necessary, a dedicated, specially-equipped state-of-the-art operating suite is located within the Maternity Center.
Southampton Hospital is a participant in the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) Safe Motherhood Initiative (SMI). The SMI officially kicked off in May 2013 and is working with more than 10,000 healthcare providers and 115 birthing facilities to develop and implement standard approaches for handling obstetric emergencies associated with maternal mortality and morbidity. The SMI focuses on the three leading causes of maternal death – obstetric hemorrhage (severe bleeding), venous thromboembolism (blood clots), and severe hypertension in pregnancy (high blood pressure).
