The Ellen Hermanson Breast Center Comprehensive care for women.. close to home
Diagnosing breast cancer early is critical. The sooner it is detected, the better your chances for recovery. At Southampton Hospital, diagnosis and treatment is a priority. So are the care and success of each individual patient. It is this unique balance—the highest quality medical services coupled with a team of “patient-centric” medical and radiation oncologists, surgeons, clinicians, technicians and a genetic counselor—that has built our reputation for excellence among our patients and their physicians.
The only facility of its kind on Eastern Long island, the Ellen Hermanson Breast Center, which opened in August of 2009, offers comprehensive services, from routine screening mammograms and sonograms to minimally invasive stereotatic and core biopsies.
Symptoms of Breast Cancer:
Early breast cancer rarely has symptoms. Self-examination, an annual clinical
examination and, depending on your age and family history, an annual
mammogram are key to catching breast cancer as early as possible. As
cancer grows, symptoms may include:
• A lump in the breast or a lump in the armpit that is hard, has uneven
edges, and often does not hurt
• Change in the size, shape, or feel of the breast or nipple (redness,
dimpling, or puckering that looks like the skin of an orange)
• Fluid coming from the nipple. This may be bloody, clear-to-yellow, or
green, and look like pus
Breast cancer is a deeply troubling diagnosis, not only for each patient, but for their families and friends. In a time of tremendous stress, Southampton Hospital’s Ellen Hermanson Breast Center offers a comprehensive approach to breast cancer. Our team includes a certified Patient Navigator to help patients understand every option and to support them through their treatment decisions and subsequent follow up care.
