The Marketing & Public Affairs department is staffed
from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on weekdays. Members of the media who require
assistance after hours, on the weekends or holidays should contact the
hospital’s switchboard by calling (631) 726-8200 and ask the operator to
contact the media relations person on call.
To obtain a patient’s condition, contact the Marketing &
Public Affairs department by calling (631) 726-8700, ext. 4. The office is open
Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
- Members of the media seeking a patient condition
must provide the patient’s full name and correct spelling.
- To protect patient privacy, no information
beyond a one-word condition will be released (e.g., Good, Fair, Serious,
- Under the Health Insurance Portability and
Accountability Act (HIPAA), a patient or his/her legal representative may
exercise his/her right to restrict the release of patient condition
information. If a patient requests that his/her condition be restricted, the
hospital may not release any information nor confirm that the patient is being
cared for at the hospital.
- No information about a patient who has died at
the hospital may be released without the authorization of next of kin. Once
next of kin has been notified, only confirmation of death can be provided, not
time or date of death.
- The Marketing & Public Affairs department works to
provide accurate and timely information about patients’ conditions, while also respecting
patients’ wishes and complying with HIPAA privacy regulations.

reporters, film crews and photographers must always been accompanied by a Southampton
Hospital Marketing & Public Affairs staff person while on the Southampton
Hospital campus. Media must arrange all interviews and photo shoots in advance
through the Southampton Hospital Marketing & Public Affairs department.
No information about employees will be released
to the media, except for confirmation of the employee’s current employment
