Southampton Hospital’s new palliative care program has received generous support from Lucia’s Angels, a foundation committed to helping local women in late-stage women’s cancer and their families. The organization has pledged $50,000 to create “Lucia’s Room,” a private inpatient room at the Hospital that will be a comforting and caring environment for patients who are going through difficult surgeries, palliative care and/or end-of-life services. Lucia’s Room will be decorated and equipped with all that is needed to create a peaceful and serene atmosphere for the patient and their visitors. Stacy Quarty, President of Lucia’s Angels, comments, “We look forward to working hand-in-hand with the palliative care team at Southampton Hospital to make Lucia’s Room as comfortable and peaceful for the patient as possible.” Hospital President and CEO Robert Chaloner comments, “We are pleased to be able to add palliative care to Southampton Hospital’s patient services, and fortunate to have the very generous support of Lucia’s Angels in this new venture.”
Funding will be supported by Team Heaven Can Wait through their participation in the annual LI2DAY Walk to Fight Breast Cancer which takes place this year on June 11-12. Long Island has a high rate of breast cancer and the disease is debilitating mentally, physically and financially. LI2DAY's focus is providing assistance to the women, men and families affected by breast cancer. Southampton Hospital has agreed to support the LI2DAY Walk as a T-shirt sponsor. Additional sponsors, walkers, crew members, volunteers, and sponsors of walkers are needed by Team Heaven Can Wait. Lucia’s Angels was founded in 2006 by Stacy Quarty, Diane Ferran and Susie Roden in memory of
Lucia Terzi Bagan, a loving and generous person who benefited from having many friends and family surrounding her in her final days. It was her wish that other women facing serious illness and their families could have the same loving support. Lucia’s Angels provides help and funding for life’s necessities such as babysitting, heating, health insurance premiums, ambulance transportation, therapeutic massage, and more.
